Fifth Grade Festivities

Parents of fifth graders, mark your calendars!

May 5thGlow Party/Dance:  This fifth grade tradition is an annual favorite!  Note that this dance is not the kind where you bring a date.  Details in this flyer.

May 24th 5th Grade Field Day: Your child will receive a t-shirt and a water bottle.  There is no cost associated with this event.  Rain date May 26th.

May 30th - 5th Grade Picnic :  Held at Tamarack Day Camp, the kids participate in all kinds of activities from swimming to the ropes course.  This is not a mandatory event and is of no additional cost to the parents. More details soon!  Rain date June 5th.

June 3rd 5th Grade Car Wash:  11AM-2PM, Ironia Firehouse.  The Ironia 5th grade class of 2005 was the first class to gift the personalized pavers to the school, and thus a tradition was born.  Although the cost of the pavers is partially funded by the PTO it is up to the 5th grade class to raise the funds to install and purchase them.  Fundraisers include bake sales and the traditional car wash.  

June 8thPerforming Panthers:  The Performing Panthers is a 5th Grade Variety show.  Practices are generally after school and individual groups will often practice on weekends or another date that works best for them.  The show is performed in the Ironia Cafeteria in the Spring.    The kids really enjoy this Ironia Tradition.  Information regarding Performing Panthers was emailed and sent home in backpacks.

June 16thFifth Grade BrunchThe brunch takes place during school from 9:15-10:45.   The children receive their yearbooks and have some breakfast food/snacks provided by volunteers and watch a “thru the years” slide show.  There is no cost associated with this event.

June 19thMoving Up Ceremony:  Held at Ironia.  Awards (Science, Social Studies to name a few) are awarded and each student is called up to receive their Certificate of Completion.  Families of the students are invited to attend.  There is no cost associated with this event.

June 19thGraduation Brunch at the BarnThis event is a voluntary event for the “graduates” and their families to enjoy some time after the Moving Up Ceremony.  There is NO class the day of the Moving Up Ceremony.  There is a ‘per family” cost (generally around $25.00) to cover the cost of the buffet lunch.  Details coming soon.


Ironia Spirit Days

March 20th – Famous Person Day – Dress up like your favorite athlete, actor/actress, singer, etc.
March 21st – Favorite Color Day – Wear your favorite color from head to toe
March 22nd – Disney Day – Dress up like your favorite Disney character
March 23rd – Work Out Day – Wear your favorite workout clothes
March 24th – Decades Day – Dress up in an outfit from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s etc.
April 7th – Travel Day – Dress up to represent your favorite vacation spot
May 19th – Super Hero/Villain Day – Dress up like your favorite super hero or villain
June 15th – Career Day – What do you want to be when you grow up?

Whole School Picnic

Ironia's 7th annual Whole School Picnic is scheduled for Friday, June 9, 2017 from 9:30am-12:30pm (rain date Monday, June 12).

Parent volunteers will be needed throughout the day to assist at the activity stations and during the community picnic.  Additional information will follow from the PTO in regards to signing up for a volunteer shift. Questions pertaining to volunteering can be forwarded to Mrs. Tara Novak.

Due to spatial constraints and most importantly for the safety of all students and staff, spectators will not be permitted on campus.  Parent volunteers will be required to sign in and will be the only non-staff members present on campus.

On the day of the picnic, please have your child do the following:

- Apply sunblock/protection prior to school arrival
- Wear tennis shoes/sneakers and shorts
- Bring a towel to sit on for the picnic lunch
- Bring a refillable water bottle
- Wear the following colored shirts:

 Kindergarten       Red
 First                    Orange
 Second                Yellow
 Third                   Green
 Fourth                 Blue
 Fifth                    Field Day Shirt

Colored Pencils

The PTO is pleased to offer our families the opportunity to purchase all the pencils, markers, erasers, notepads, and other teacher-requested school supplies from Staples at a discount to you.  It also saves you the trouble of collecting it all on your own!  This year, for the first time, we will be utilizing an online order process, making it more convenient for you!  Use the code for Ironia School when placing your order: 49317.  DO NOT send in a check - it will not be accepted.  The deadline for online orders is June 29th.  The estimated arrival for supply kit pick up is 8/29-9/2 at the Staples located at 140 RT 10, Randolph.   If you have any questions, please contact Karen Galluzzo.

Students in all grades should also be prepared for their Specials classes.

Art: Smock/adult size shirt - Please make sure sleeves are cut down to size and that it is a comfortable garment for your child. Print child’s first and last name on the back.

Gym: Sneakers and comfortable clothing. Appropriate outdoor clothing as weather permits.

In addition, some items that are suggested to have at home for homework are: dictionary, stapler, ruler, glue, glue stick, pencils, erasers, markers, colored pencils, crayons, notebook paper, thesaurus, construction paper, poster board, and shoe boxes.

Ironia PTO Panther Cash Program



One of Ironia PTO’s successful ‘no-cost’ fundraisers is the Panther Cash program. You can purchase gift cards from dozens of local & national participating retailers, who sell ‘scrip’ (gift cards) to non-profit organizations at face value and donate a percentage of the sales back to the organization. Ironia PTO has earned over $5,000 over the last 3 years with this easy win-win program!

If you have used this program in the past, you know how quick & easy it is – simply logon and start shopping!
